Asbestos Removal for Government Tax Relief

Client: Clearview Communications, Colchester
Value of Project: £220,000
The Project: Removal of existing single skin asbestos inclusive of above purlin gyproc liner & tee bars.
Removal of redundant Victorian wire glazing step.
Modification of unusual small section I beam purlins to provide adequate fixing grounds for new sheeting.
Affix new 115mm Kingspan RW panels to achieve building regulations.
No rooflights present in roofs.

What the Customer Thought:

“The government are currently giving 150% tax relief on any building works related to the removal of materials containing asbestos, so we decided to bite the bullet and replace the roof and the cladding on our building here in Chelmsford.  I found two local roofing contractors to give me a quote and Belmont roofing was recommended by our Architect.

The quotes came in and of the three contractors, the most professional in their approach was Belmont who demonstrated a commitment to health and safety as well as providing a quality product at a good price.

The project was completed on budget and in a timely fashion and it was a pleasure dealing with Belmont’s project manager, designer and also the technicians carrying out the work. At all times they were helpful, courteous and obviously enjoyed their work and enjoyed working for Belmont.

As the building owner and one who works within the construction industry, I understand the importance of good project management and also the importance of health and safety. Roofing works involving asbestos are by their nature one of the most hazardous trades. Belmont managed the whole process effectively and efficiently so that the stress and worry for me were significantly reduced.

The building has now been transformed from a drab 1960s asbestos warehouse into a modern fit for purpose office unit.”

Overflowing Gutters to Factory

Client: Waymade Plc Basildon
Value of project: £13,000
The Project: Gutters overflowing during very heavy rainfall. The asbestos existing roof had been over-laid restricting easy access for cleaning and maintenance.

There was space available in the void below the roof sheets and the steelwork to increase the overall gutter dimensions.

The Solution: Full design calculations carried out by Belmont design team and Ampteam Ltd and the introduction of a purpose- made “Unifold” gutter lining system reinforced with an EPDM membrane.

This system is particularly useful in refurbishment work as it has a unique “hinge” system which is designed to allow retro-fitting below overhanging roof sheeting. The space within the void was maximised and allowed the work to be carried out without disturbance to the customers’ business operations.

What the customer thinks:

During severe flash storms during the summer of 2014, our 2 valley gutters were overwhelmed and severe flooding to our factory occurred.

We have always cleaned and maintained the guttering as part of our good housekeeping procedures but the intensity of the storms meant the outlets and drains could not cope with the sheer volume of water. Climate change was very obvious in Basildon that summer.

Having worked with Belmont Roofing on a number of previous projects, we asked for their help in providing a long term solution in case this situation were to arise in the future and to give us peace of mind.

They showed me several examples of where Unifold had been used by them and whilst more expensive than conventional options we felt this product was the obvious choice as not only does it seal the gutter, it protects against rusting and has increased the gutter capacity significantly.

The Belmont team were, as usual, very professional and carried out the work efficiently without any disruption to our busy production time.

Having had several very heavy rainfalls since the work was completed, the building remains watertight.

£750,000 Asbestos Roof refurbishment for Waymade PLC Basildon

Client: Waymade Plc Basildon
Value of project: £750,000
The Project: Typical 1970’s derelict building site purchased.  It had been roofed with single skin asbestos to a shallow pitch and was leaking badly.

The old roof lights were in a bad state dirty and gave little natural light.

What the customer thought:

As Site Services and Engineering Manager for Waymade PLC, it is my responsibility to ensure that all works carried out at our site are carried out safely, not only to meet our own exacting standards in both quality and safety, but to safeguard all those involved in working on any project.

We acquired a new site to enable us to expand our production base and found a typical 1970’s derelict building which met our needs. It had been roofed with single skin asbestos to a shallow pitch and was leaking badly.

The old roof lights were poor and very distorted and dirty and gave little, if any natural light.

When it came to a major re-roofing project of this nature, we needed the confidence of an experienced and professional roofing contractor. Belmont Roofing was recommended to us and has obviously a long-standing and professional reputation. We also wanted to employ a roofing company who could assist us in every aspect from design to completion.

We agreed a Kingspan 1000 RW composite panel and combined with new triple skin roof lights and modern single skin overlay to the side cladding, have achieved a modern day, light and attractive building which achieves a huge energy saving and leak free environment.

Belmont Roofing met and exceeded our expectations in every respect. Having been around since 1959 working for major industrial and commercial clients in carrying out work of this nature, they made our lives very much easier and finished the work on time and within budget- with the minimum of fuss and disruption.

Belmont also provide us with a comprehensive annual maintenance programme so we can be assured that the roof lights and gutters are free from dirt and debris as well as reporting back the general roof condition, which is always a valuable tool due too the unforeseeable weather conditions the county has become accustomed too of late.
Belmont Roofing is a professional and competent roofing company whom I would have no hesitation in using again for any work of this nature.

Taylor Wimpey Riverside Development

Client: Taylor Wimpey
Value of Project: Undisclosed
The Project: Leaking Gutters – Non-watertight Roofing

What the customer thought:

“The gutters to this development had been problematical for quite some time and several “solutions” had been tried with limited success. We wanted to find a long term solution to this on-going problem and contacted local roofing specialists, Belmont Roofing Limited. I met with their Estimator, Mike Ward who I found to be more than helpful and very experienced. He could not have been more informative and offered a number of options , one of which was a Rubberised “Plygene” gutter lining system which we have now used on all 5 blocks and have relined 230 lm of gutters.

I am pleased to say all gutters are now totally weather tight. I am very impressed by both the system and the professional attitude of the Belmont team and would have no hesitation in recommending their services to anyone who is looking for a good reliable roofing contractor”

Ardex Factory Roofing Refurbishment

Client: Ardex UK Limited
Value of project: Undisclosed
The Project: Complete re-roofing required on production factory.

What the customer thought:

“As works engineer for Ardex UK Limited (manufactures of high performance tiling and flooring products) we strongly believe in customer satisfaction and giving a first class service.

When we receive this same level of service from our suppliers, we are happy to endorse their company.

For this reason, I am delighted to recommend the services of Belmont Roofing ltd who have recently completed a very important re-roofing project to an area over our production factory. The existing roof had reached the end of its serviceable life and leaks had started to occur.

I contacted three companies for competitive quotes and received a variety of quotations and options.

We found the ideas and help given to us by Belmont Roofing to be exceptional and very professional. Belmont provided various options and clearly laid out support literature and site sketches which we found very helpful in making our final decision. Their proposals and detailed quotation fitted within our allocated budget and we appointed Belmont Roofing to act as principal contractors.

They completed the work on time and with the minimum of fuss and disruption to our production and within budget. We would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone with similar re-roofing projects.”

Overlaying an old failed felt roof over retail shop

Client: Glasswells
Value of Project: Undisclosed
The Project: Failed Roof Felt

What the customer thought:

“Glasswells is the largest independent department store in East Anglia with stores in Bury St. Edmunds, Ipswich, Haverhill & Saffron Walden and have been trading since 1946. Our philosophy has remained constant throughout that period – to provide quality furniture by offering amazing service that stands out from the crowd.

How refreshing for us to have found a roofing company that shares our own commitment for offering customer care and service.

We have used Belmont Roofing on various projects over many years, from the very large to basic remedial repairs and have always been more than happy with the service they provide.

They have recently completed the re-felting of one of our tenanted properties in Norwich. The flat roofs had reached the end of their life expectancy and various associated details such as re-building of the water tank needed to be tackled as one project to keep inconvenience to a minimum.

From the outset of our enquiry, the attention to detail, preparation of specification and budget options and quality of service throughout certainly was what we have come to expect from Belmont Roofing over the years.

We have pleasure in being able to recommend Belmont Roofing as being a trusted and competent roofing contractor”
